Dear Parents and Carers,
St Mary’s Open Day
Do you know someone that is looking for a school for their child? This may be because they are moving school or that they are looking for a Nursery or Reception place? On Thursday 30th November we will be having our second open day where families can visit the school for a tour and to ask questions about our wonderful school. If you know someone who would be interested in joining a tour, please get them to contact the school office and sign up.
Maths Stay and Play
Thank you to all of the parents and carers that came to our maths Stay and Play. We hope that you enjoyed visiting your child’s classroom and experiencing the maths activities with the children. It is important that we work together with families so that all of our children can flourish.
Christmas is coming! Oh no it isn’t……oh yes it is!
Year 3 and 4 visited Hackney Empire this week, seeing the pantomime Aladdin. It was great and I particularly enjoyed joining in with the singing and dancing. As the rest of the school attend their theatre trips, I hope that they also have as much fun.
Have you seen the information sent to you, with regards to all of the Christmas events coming up in school?
I am looking forward to seeing you all at the school Christmas Fair next Friday, 1st December from 5.30pm. We are hopeful that Santa will be joining us, before he starts his final preparations for the big day. He is also looking forward to trying some of the cakes, from the Christmas Bake Off. Have you registered your participation in the competition yet (see below)?
This Christmas there will be people who will struggle to feed their families due to financial and other challenges. We will be collecting items for the Hornsey Food Bank to help bring joy and hope to those people. Please see the link in the Christmas dates below.
Y6 residential in Pendarren, Wales
This week our Year 6 children have been on a residential trip in Wales. They have been caving, experiencing nature by visiting waterfalls, rivers and the sea, climbing and much more. This is a fantastic opportunity for the children to challenge themselves and develop skills. We hope that this will help them grow as young people and help prepare them for secondary school and beyond. A big thank you to our staff team who have spent the past five days away from their families to make this happen. Please take a look at the school website to see some photos.
Bikes and Scooters
Please help us by reminding your children that once they reach the school gate, they must dismount and push their bikes and scooters to the parking area. We want to ensure everyone is able to enter and exit safely and we need your help with this. We will also be reminding children and asking them to do this.
Our Amazing School Community
I am proud to tell you how you and the children are ‘living out’ our school vision and values with some great examples.
This week it was great to see so many children and adults wearing their ‘odd socks’ for Anti Bullying Week and participating in the conversations around this. We want to empower children to understand their own behaviours and make the right choices, understand the difference between someone being unkind and bullying and also know what to do if they experience or see bullying.
You will see from the photographs below how you have helped keep those less fortunate warm this winter. We participated in Wrap Up London collecting so many coats and dropping them off at a donation point to be distributed to those that need them. Thank you.
Similarly, thank you all for your contributions to the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal. As a school we had our own remembrance and silence to reflect on those in the armed forces that have lost their lives and have served and sacrificed from the First World War up until the present day.
Best wishes for a lovely weekend,
Jane O’Brien
