Dear Parents & Carers,
We have had an action-packed two weeks, since returning from half term, full of trips and fun.
Trips Galore
Year 5 had a great trip in the sunshine to Kew Gardens to support their topic “Why The Rainforests Are In Danger”, and learnt how many of the plants there are vital to medicine, and about the dangers of destruction of the rainforest.
Year 4 dived into lava and volcanos to further their knowledge of the subject at the Natural History Museum. They had a great workshop and even experienced a simulator.
Year 3 furthered their knowledge of Ancient Egypt with a trip to the British Museum. They were highly impressed by seeing a necklace made of dolphin teeth.
The rain finally stopped long enough for Reception to have a suitably muddy Forest School session at Ally Pally and were able to get up close and personal with some creepy crawlies, continue building their shelter and, of course, play in the mud garden. We’re so fortunate to have this facility right here on our doorstep and the children thrive in the outdoors and fresh air (and mud!)
Year 1 went to Holy Innocents Church to act out the story of Easter which was lots of fun and on Tuesday this week, the charity All Dogs Matter came to Church Lane to talk about the important work they do, rescuing and transforming the lives of abandoned dogs. They brought along Molly, a daschund, to show the children. Adorable!
You can read accounts of all these trips below, and on our website.
Church Lane Get Their Dancing Shoes On
On Friday we had the Disco at Church Lane which was lots of fun so that you so much to the PSA for organising and for Nataliya for being such a great, and engaging DJ. Roll on the Rectory Gardens disco on Wednesday 18th March 6-7.30pm. You can buy tickets using this link DISCO TICKETS
Parent Consultations – 24/3 and 25/3
You will shortly be receiving an invitation to book your in-person Parent Consultations (unless you have PLP meetings with Ms Gordon) so look out for the email. As always, if you have any difficulty booking a slot, please get in touch with us.
Arbor – School MIS System
As you know, we moved to Arbor from Integris last year and are continuing with our integration in the software. After Easter, we will be launching the Parent Portal, which we will use for our bookings – clubs, nursery, trips and much more, moving to replace SchoolMoney. We will also be using it to communicate with parents on a day-to-day basis, predominantly by email, so please make sure that we have your correct email details on our system. We have heard really good reports from other schools who use the Parent Portal so are excited for the change, and hope that you enjoy it too.
World Book Day
World Book today was great fun. The children looked amazing (and the staff) and the activities were a great success. Year 1 and Year 2 came up to Rectory Gardens to read to Year 5 and Year 6, whilst Year 3 and Year 4 went to Church Lane to read to Nursery and Reception. Guess The Teacher was a great success too. To coincide with World Book Day, we have a Scholastic Book Fair on both sites next week, on Tuesday and Wednesday so let’s continue to share the love of books.
Best wishes,
St Mary’s CE Primary School
