Year 5 Blossom at Kew Gardens
Year 5 had a really interesting and fun trip to Kew Gardens to support our geography topic ‘Why The Rainforests Are In Danger’. The weather was sunny and it felt like spring had sprung! We all had a workshop inside the Palm House. Our guide showed us the types of plants that grow in rainforests and explained how important the plants are to humans but also animals. Many of the plants are vital ingredients in medicines. We learned about the different layers of the rainforest and how incredibly quickly bamboo grows. We looked at vanilla pods and cocoa plants and even got to rub some cocoa butter on our hands! We learned about how so much of these areas have already been destroyed and that this destruction also affects the animals that live there.
