Dear Parents and Carers,
What a busy half-term it has been so far!
Parent Governor Elections
The application to be a parent governor at our school closed on Tuesday this week. We were lucky enough to have three applicants come forward. From Monday 17th October, the school office will send out the relevant information to you about the prospective governor so that you can learn about each applicant and then determine who you will vote for. Details about the voting process will also be sent out by the school office.
Nursery Visit to The Natural History Museum
As part of their learning about dinosaurs, our youngest children had their first ever school trip to the Natural History Museum this week. They had the most wonderful day and greatly enjoyed this new experience. Thank you to so many of our nursery parents for supporting our nursery team with the day.
Year 6 PGL trip to Osmington Bay
This week, our oldest children, the Year 6s, had the most wonderful week in Osmington Bay in Dorset. They took part in a range of exciting, fun and challenging outdoor and adventurous activities. They also enjoyed spending time with their friends as well as spending time getting to know children in the other Year 6 classes better. Furthermore, developing team building and communication skills are a huge part of this week, allowing so many children to flourish so well. I saw this first hand when I visited the children for the day on Wednesday. Thank you to the Year 6 Team for successfully leading such an enjoyable week for the children.
PSA Events
Our PSA are working tirelessly to provide a multitude of fun and sociable events for the whole school community. Forthcoming are the cake sale at both Church Lane and Rectory Gardens next week Wednesday and Thursday respectively, the Spooky Walk on Saturday 29th October (see posters at school) and the Bonfire Night on Saturday 5th November (ticket only event). Do please support any or all of these events if you are able to and remember that funds raised will go towards providing creative experiences for your children. Later this term for example, Rectory Gardens children will again have the opportunity to visit Hackney Empire whilst Church Lane children will have the fun experience of a visiting Christmas production.
Harvest Festival – thank you for your contributions
Next week we have our Harvest Festival assembly at Rectory Gardens. Do please come along to support this special event in the Christian calendar. We will also be hugely grateful for any donations that you can spare. These will go to the Hornsey Food Bank and support many families in need.
School Progress Coffee Morning – Date Change
Apologies that this meeting did not take place last week. This has since been rescheduled to Thursday 10th November at Church Lane. Here, we will discuss some of the key priority areas for improvement this year.
Sporting successes for children – see Mr Oakley’s post below
As ever, Mr Oakley and Mr Allison lead our children so brilliantly in all things sporty at St Mary’s and we now regularly feature prominently in competitions across Haringey’s schools. See Mr Oakley’s news below.
Year 6 Secondary Transfer Reminder
A reminder to all Year 6 parents to please ensure that they complete their secondary transfer applications as early into next week as possible, Whilst you have until October 31st to complete this form online, we ask you to complete this earlier just in case you need any support with this. Do let the Mrs Walker know if you need any support and a senior member of school staff will then support you as needed.
Do remember that next week Friday (21st) marks the end of the first half-term of this academic year. Children return to school on Tuesday 1st November as Monday is an INSET (staff training day).
With warm wishes,
Calvin Henry
