As a Rights Respecting School, we are a community where children’s rights are learned, taught, practised, respected, protected and promoted.
At St Mary’s we are passionate about embedding Unicef’s Rights Respecting Schools programme into our school values. All the adults in our school community are committed to ensuring that our children’s rights are upheld and respected through teaching and learning activities and by participating in national and global initiatives.
We have been delighted to have improved on our Bronze Committed Award and are now Silver Rights Aware. Next stop GOLD!
This child centred award scheme will provide our children with the knowledge of their human rights and responsibilities, empower them to make their local and global communities better, improve their well-being and behaviour as well as instilling in them a sense of dignity and respect for themselves as well as for others.
Rights Respecting Ambassadors: We have appointed children throughout the school as RRS ambassadors. They have regular meetings with our RRS lead Morag Abernethy (Church Lane) to discuss the rights of our children and how these are represented in our curriculum. They demonstrate the RR values at school and help other children to understand what a RR School is.
