Autumn 1 2022 Sporting Round Up
Sports clubs get off to a bang!
Our autumn sports clubs are up and running with gymnastics and football at Church Lane and football, gymnastics, multi-sports, karate and boxing at Rectory Gardens! We’re delighted have to a new boxing club, run by Coach Joel Femi, which has proved very popular. Please see the website for a list of all clubs as we still have some availability for new children.
Cross Country Competition at New River
Twenty of our pupils took part in the first cross country event of the new school year recently. The race is for Y6 children but Mr Oakley selected a range from Y5 & Y6 and even included some Year 4 children.
The children all did extremely well and surprised themselves but we must make special mention of Jack (3rd place and medal winner), Dominic (6th) and Max (10th) who all came in the top 10 in the boys race and Hebron who performed strongly in the girls race. This is in a field of nearly 200 competitors so well done to them, and all of our children who took part with so much enthusiasm and determination. We’re proud of you all. The top finishers will now go on to represent Haringey at London Youth Games in November.
These are the children that took part: Jean, Athena, Hebron, Waverley, Olivia, Isabelle, Maria, Ffion, Dominic, Abu, Eddie, Julian, Reuben, Josiah, Triston, Jack, Max, Joseph, Bradley, Adrian and Ed. Thank you Mr Allison and Mrs Brewer for taking the children and for the parent volunteers who went along too.
Haringey Boys Y5-6 football Cup – Winners!
Nine boys taken from across year 5 and 6 were accompanied by Mr Allison and Mrs Beckett, up to Power League to compete in the Haringey Football Cup football. There were approximately 15 schools taking part and after a slightly disappointing first match went on to win one by an amazing score of 8-0. We went on to end the quarter, semi and eventually final by first to score penalties. Emotions ran high but so were we when st Mary’s triumphed. Impeccable behaviour, stamina, teamwork and footwork prevailed! In winning this competition we have qualified to represent Haringey at the London Youth games in January! A special shout out for Isaac our goalkeeper who was outstanding right through.

Haringey Girls Y5-6 Football Cup
On 30th September our Year 5-6 girls team entered the Haringey girls football cup. After a brilliant win and a hard fought draw in the first two games the girls narrowly lost their remaining group stages games and missed out on a semi-place. This team have only just started training together and showed superb team-work and great spirit throughout the day. We’ll improve through the season and this is just the start! Well done all!

Lawn Tennis Association working with Year 3
Throughout this half term we’ve bought in a specialist coach from the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) to give the year 3s some extra special tennis lessons! Josh (LTA Coach) has been fantastic with the children, developing their skills and their understanding of tennis. It’s been a really enjoyable module – well done year 3!
Cycling League- Round 1 – 7th October
What fantastic start to the Haringey Cycling league as develop our focus on cycling throughout the school! The children who attended the round 1 races at Ducketts Common represented the school brilliantly and competed at a very high level with several golds as well as some 2nd and 3rd place finishes. The result aren’t back yet but we suspect we’re high up that cycling league and looking forward to round 2. Well done all!

Year 5 Dodgeball Tournament -13th October
With our year 6’s away we had to select all year 5’s for the exciting Haringey Dodgeball tournament. The 6 boys and 6 girls selected performed superbly and showed great team-spirit throughout. The team had a win against North Haringey and we managed to finish 6th in a hard fought competition. Great work year 5’s!

Alexandra Park CC Cricket Day – 14th October
As we continue to develop cricket at St Marys we now have a long standing relationship with Alexandra Park Cricket Club. This Friday they sent their specialist coaches in for a cricket masterclass with our Year 3’s and year 5’s. The children had fun sessions learning a range of cricket skills such batting, bowling and fielding. There’s an indoor cricket competition in autumn 2 and we’ll have Middlesex Cricket Club back in for special session next term and the increasingly popular Cricket Club will be back in the summer term. For those interested, keep an eye out for the T20 cricket World Cup starting later this month!
Movement module at Church Lane
This term we’ve been focusing on movement at Church Lane with a specific focus each week (balancing, agility, running, controlling our bodies etc). The module also includes a teamwork week where children work in their houses to develop team skills such as listening, cooperating and encouraging each other. The children made great progress and have enjoyed working individually and as a team!
