Sporting Events – Autumn 1 – 2024
We really need parent volunteers to continue to be able to take part in all the opportunities that are available so if you would like to volunteer (even if your child isn’t participating) please email swalker@stmarysn8.co.uk to be put onto a list.
Cycling Round 1
Well done to our cyclists for having a great start to the Haringey Cycling League. We had some great results in the first round – 7 more to come! Ada and Preston stood out as they won their respective heats. We made a great start to the cycling season.
Cycling Team: Godsend, Thiago, Preston, Alexander, Lily, Ada, Amina, Naomi E, Kimberley and Antowan
Athletics Across the School
Our young athletes at Church Lane and Rectory gardens have had a fantastic start to term with our athletics module! Children have been learning running, jumping and throwing techniques. The children also learn to measure and support each other, learning to measure jumps in centimetres and metres and recording personal bests!
Talented Girls Team Go Close At Haringey Football Cup
We have a very special girls team this year and they really shone at the Haringey Girls Football Cup! Maria scored a brilliant hat-trick in the 2nd game as we won 4 games to qualify for the quarter finals. Teachers from other schools commented on what a talented group we had this year and we were tipped to go close. Unfortunately, we came up against a strong Coldfall side and were narrowly beaten 1-0. Very proud of this talented group!
Team: Maria, Stefania, Ada, Yanet, Amina, Deena, Krystle, Mabel
Boys Show Team Spirit At Haringey Football Cup
Well done to our boys football team who competed in the Haringey cup last week. We had a tough start to the competition losing our first 2 games but bounced back to win the next 2. Overall we didn’t do enough to qualify for quarter finals but showed great team spirit not giving up and were led brilliantly by captain Noah! Chance also stood out as a brilliant defender!
Team: Noah K, Jah’mai, Chance, Kairo, Charlie, Taylor, Zaiah, Preston
First Sports Event of the Year – Cross Country
A huge well done to all our children who competed in the annual Haringey Cross country – a 2km uphill race across a tough muddy field! Mr Allison led the trip and was hugely impressed with the effort and pacing strategies of our young runners! A special well done to Stefania who almost won and equalled our best ever result finishing 3rd! Well done to our youngest runners who competed with year 6’s and held their own – especially Jono (year 4) and Frank, year 3! We’ll get a full run-down of times and places and want to say a big thank-you to Mrs Day and Ed’s mum for coming along to help. What is lovely to see from the photos is how much the children encouraged and supported each other during their races.
After a hugely successful cross country we’re super proud to announce Stefania has been chosen to represent Haringey in the Youth Games finals! It’s always a great spectacle for anyone who would like to go down and watch. It’s at Parliament Hill Fields on November 16th usually starting around 11.30am.
Taking part were: Naomi E, Stefania, Maria, Ciana, Manal, Thiago, Preston, Antowan, Fergus, Jono, Alexander P, Charlie, Kairo, Riley and Ed W.
