Dear Parents/Carers,
Happy New Year!
I hope that you had a lovely Christmas and holiday break and that you had a wonderful time with your families and loved ones.
As we start 2023, we very much hope that this new calendar year is far less traumatic than what we all experienced last year. The funeral of Helen Hutchings, our late School Business Manager was held at the beginning of the Christmas holiday. It was a lovely service which was well attended by many staff, friends and of course, family members. Shortly, we will start the process of doing something special in school in Helen’s memory; I will update you about this in due course. Again, my thanks to all of you who supported and stood by us in our time of need.
Spring Term Curriculum
Within the next few days you will receive the Spring Term newsletter for your child’s class as well as a topic map showing an overview of the key areas that will be taught this term. I hope that you find them useful. There are also a multitude of events that have been and are being planned to support the curriculum. Do please check the school calendar regularly and look out for forthcoming notifications from school staff.
After School Clubs
You may have noticed that increasingly, we are expanding our range of school clubs. Last term, Boxing Club at Rectory Gardens and Chess Club at both sites proved to be hugely popular as well as the ongoing suite of ther clubs on offer. This term, and following parental views, we are further expanding our clubs offer, particularly at Church Lane. We have for example already started Art Club and are planning on introducing more clubs within the next few weeks – watch this space!
Social Media & Your Children
Unfortunately we have had a few sad incidences of unkindness within Year 6 which have taken place through social media apps and mobile phones. We encourage all parents to please be involved in their children’s social media usage and to consider whether or not they feel apps such as WhatsApp and SnapChat, which have age ratings of 16 and 13 respectively, are appropriate for their children.
Reception School Admissions Deadline – 15th January
This coming Sunday 15th is the deadline by which parents need to let the local authority know their school preferences for the Reception age group intake for this coming September. If you know of any parents who have yet to make up their mind, I would hugely appreciate your support in promoting how wonderful our school is. Hopefully, our recent Ofsted inspection report will go some way in helping us with this.
Wishing you a restful and enjoyable weekend,
Calvin Henry
