Dear Parents/Carers,
Another extremely busy two weeks at St Mary’s. Here is a snapshot of some of the things that have been going on and other things to look forward to.
‘Communication Pod’ at Church Lane
Children at Church Lane this week have been having a wonderful time with a ‘Communication Pod’, which is located in the nursery outdoor area. This provision, led by a company called Groundswell Art and partly-funded by the Arts Council England, gives children opportunities to improve their language, communication and story-telling skills. All children across Church Lane and some children at Rectory Gardens have benefitted from having access to the communication pod – do ask your children what activities they have been doing inside the pod.
KS2 SATs – well done Year 6!
This week, our Year 6 children undertook their end of Year 6 SATs tests. They displayed a very positive attitude towards them and as a result, we have every confidence that they have done extremely well.
This week and next week, our Year 2 children are also doing their end of Year 2 SATs tests and we are also sure that they will do very well. This year is the last year that Year 2 children will be required to undertake SATs tests. Children’s SATs results will be made available by the end of this academic year.
School Progress Coffee Morning Next Week
Next week on Wednesday morning, I will be holding this term’s coffee morning for parents and carers. Here, I will explain to you our school’s progress against our improvement priority areas this year as well as what some of the priority areas for improvement will be going into a new school year. I will be joined at this meeting by members of my senior leadership team. All parents are welcome to attend.
International Evening next week Tuesday
Also next week on Tuesday, a reminder that we will be having our International Evening, an event that has not been held at our school for many years. We are greatly looking forward to celebrating and learning more about our proudly diverse school community, be this through song, dance, poetry or food! My thanks to all parents and carers in advance for giving your support to what we are sure will be the most wonderful of occasions. You will need a (free) ticket to come and you can get one here.
Next Week is Walk to School Week
Please see below for details on how you can join in on this healthy schools initiative that also links to us as a Rights Respecting School – in particular Article 6, the right to life (less air pollution) and Article 26, the right to health (exercise on the way to school).
Christian Aid Week
Next week is Christian Aid week. On Tuesday the children can wear something red and please bring £1.00 to help farmers in Malawi.
Goodbye and thank you Mother Mitzi
Mother Mitzi, a much loved and valued member of the Clergy Team at Hornsey Parish Church, left us last week after three years of being at St Mary’s. Mother Mitzi has gone on to become the Parish Priest at St John and St Luke’s Church at Clay Hill in Enfield. Thank you Mother Mitzi and we wish you the best of everything wonderful in your ministry in your new post.
Congratulations Gemma Simmons – A Baby Girl!
I had previously forgotten to tell you that Gemma Simmons, our interventions teacher gave birth to her baby daughter Cielle recently. This is Gemma’s third child and mother and baby are both doing very well. Congratulations to you and your growing family Ms Simmons.
PSA Needs You!
Parents and carers, we urgently need more support from you to add to the strength and depth of the Parent and School Association (PSA). This is the group that fundraises by organising events such as the summer and Christmas fairs, schools discos and cake sales. These funds are then used to provide your children with additional creative and fun learning opportunities. However, the PSA needs more of you to help organise and fundraise for these events. If you are able to provide any support, particularly in terms of time and ideas, do let the school office know and your details will be sent on to the PSA chair.
Have a lovely weekend,
Calvin Henry
