Dear Parents and Carers,
St Mary’s Christmas Fair
Thank you to everyone who helped and attended the Christmas Fair last Friday, what a wonderful event it was. It was great to see the whole school community coming together and having fun. You all did an amazing job donating items for the tombola on our non-uniform day. At first I questioned the amount of prizes as they were covering the whole of the stage, however I underestimated how popular our tombola was! Your generosity with food also made the event extra special as we shared dishes made by our families. I would also like to thank Philip Alexander Estate Agents for providing the refreshments that kept us going into the evening. I particularly enjoyed chatting to many of you, listening to the choir and, of course, seeing Santa. I am so pleased that he made time to fit his visit to us into his busy schedule.
St Mary’s Bake Off
Did you get to taste any of the entries at the Christmas Fair? Again, it was great to see members of our community taking part in this competition. Congratulations to our winners and runners up, chosen by our expert judges Souad, Abi, Tina and Barry from the Rectory Garden kitchen. Please see photos and names of winners below.
Attendance and Punctuality
As you may be aware, the Department for Education have reported concerns about the increased numbers of children absent from school and the huge impact this and poor punctuality has on the learning and future outcomes of our young people. Most schools are experiencing this trend, including here at St Mary’s. Like you, we want your children to flourish and for them to be the best they can be. We want to work with you to improve attendance and punctuality at the school and we are fortunate to have our Home School Supoprt Practitioner, Ms Fenton, who leads on this. At this time we are reviewing our attendance and punctuality procedures, policy and correspondence so that parents have all of the information that they need to help them get their children to school and on time. Watch this space for more updates!
Upcoming Christmas Events
It has been an exciting and busy couple of weeks and will continue to be up until the end of term. Next week the Church Lane children will be sharing their Christmas Performances with parents, we will also be having our Santa Run, Christmas Dinner and Christmas Jumper Day. The following week the whole school will have a Christmas assembly at Hornsey Parish Church and we will be treated to a Carol Concert by the children at Rectory Gardens. Can you help others this Christmas?
We will be collecting items for the Hornsey Food Bank on Wednesday 13th December to help bring joy and hope to those who will struggle to feed their families this Christmas, due to financial and other challenges. Please see here for details of the kind of things they are hoping to receive Hornsey Food Bank Christmas Appeal – thank you in advance for your donations.
Wishing you all a peaceful weekend,
