Dear Parents and Carers,
I wonder whether, like me, you are yearning for a little more sunshine and slightly less rain? As we approach the Bank Holiday weekend it would be lovely to be able to go on some nice walks and not have to take a coat and umbrella! Whatever you are planning this weekend, I hope you have a good one.
Class Assemblies
Please watch out for the date of your child’s class assembly. This week Crimson Class presented a superb assembly about our planet, sharing facts, writing, a song and lots more. It was great to see the children thinking about how they could make a positive difference to the world we live in and also sharing some tips with the audience.
We need your help!
When I grow up day – Tuesday 21st May 2024
As yet we have had very few volunteers and want to make this day a real success. Can you offer some time to come and speak to some classes about your job (current or past)? We are looking for family members who can do a brief talk about their career, to inspire and open up possibilities for our children. Are you a builder, brain surgeon, social worker, musician, hairdresser, lawyer, designer, nurse, volunteer, IT developer or a lion tamer?! Do you own your own business, do you volunteer, what special skill do you have? Whatever you do, we want to hear from you! If you are able to offer some time, please email swalker@stmarysn8.co.uk to volunteer.
International Evening – a celebration of our similarities and differences
On Tuesday 21st May we are holding our second International Evening to celebrate the huge range of cultural diversity in our school community. Do you, or someone from your family, have a song, a dance, a poem or a story that you would like to share. If so, please get in touch with Sally at the email address above.
Physical Education (PE) at St Mary’s
Did you know that it is not common for schools to have a specialist trained PE teacher delivering the curriculum in primary schools? The great majority of PE in primary schools is taught only by class-based teachers or by sport coaches. We are fortunate to be able to offer a specialist trained PE teacher, which enables us to deliver much more than just the national curriculum. Children at St Mary’s have access to a wide range of opportunities and sports, after school activities and are able to compete in multiple events successfully, all organised and led by the fantastic Mr Oakley. This is not an offer found in every school unfortunately. With research telling us that PE not only improves children’s physical health but also academic progress, mental well-being and future well-being, today I am sharing this and celebrating everyone who enables us to continue to deliver PE to such an extraordinary high standard.
Have a wonderful long weekend and we will see you on Tuesday,
Jane O’Brien
