Dear Parents/Carers
SATs Tests
This week, and after a two-year gap, children in Year 6 once again took part in their end of Year 6 SATs tests. These tests are designed to help determine the extent to which our children are working at age-related expectations. They are also designed to help provide secondary school teachers with an understanding about how well children are achieving in reading, writing and maths. This will then help support children’s learning further as they progress throughout Year 7 and beyond.
Throughout the month of May, our Year 2 children have also been doing their SATs tests in reading and maths. Unlike the Year 6 tests, however, these tests are marked in school and children’s overall outcomes are determined by teacher assessment judgements rather than outcomes determined by tests which are externally marked. We are very proud of how well all of our children have applied themselves to these tests. Thank you also to all of the teachers who have worked so very hard to prepare the children so well.
Trip to Paris!
Also, after a two year gap, it is wonderful that we can once again offer our Year 5 children a trip to Paris where they can practise their French, learn about French culture and meet their pen pals who they have been writing to throughout the year. Naturally, the children are very excited that this is going ahead, as are the staff accompanying the children. Thank you as ever to Madame Baker for organising what I am sure will be a fabulous experience for all of our children on Tuesday 24th May.
Queen’s Jubilee Celebrations
To mark the 70th anniversary of the Queen’s reign, our school will be having a Jubilee picnic on Thursday 26th May in the Church Yard next to Church Lane. Here, the children will have fun with their friends as they lunch together and take part in a range of fun activities, including a competition or two, themed by decade. I’m looking forward to seeing the dressing-up! Thank you Mrs Molloy (ably supported by the PSA) for putting in place plans for what I am sure will be a fun day.
Christian Aid Week
Next week is Christian Aid Week, and to mark this annual awareness raising event, we are asking our children to come to school on Thursday 19th dressed in one or several items of clothing that reflects the diversity of our children’s cultural backgrounds. They can also make or bring in something to show, that highlights this too. In doing so, we are asking our children to think about others throughout the world and bring in £1 to help support the plight of people suffering from drought, poverty and starvation in Zimbabwe, Africa. See the following link. https://www.christianaid.org.uk/appeals/key-appeals/christian-aid-week
As ever, and despite many of us having our own challenges to deal with, we encourage our children to be mindful that most of us live very comfortable lives compared to the vast majority of the world’s population. Therefore, we believe it important to think about others in different parts of the world who are not nearly as fortunate as so many of us.
Have a lovely weekend.
