26 May Sporting Round Up May 2023
Sporting Round Up May 2023 – SO MUCH SPORT!
Haringey Quad Athletics (Year 3-4)
Mr Allison took a fantastic group of year 3-4’s to the Haringey Quad Competition. The team (especially the girls) performed brilliantly winning several individual golds and silvers along the way. We dominated both relay races with the girls picking up another gold. This is based on team points and we were unlucky not to get bronze medals as we just missed out this time achieving 5th in Haringey.
Athletics Team: Maria, Ada, Naomi (Crimson), Amina, Thiago, Noah, Kuba, Antowan
St Marys are Boys Athletics Haringey Champions!!
This is the biggest athletics competition of the calendar with 25 children in each team, over 20 separate events and 17 schools taking part. They separated it into two separate competitions (girls and boys). Highlights included the girls relay team winning the race by over 50 metres! Gold for Karis in 100m. Top 3 finishes for shot put (Misha and Khloe), Javelin (Lottie) and 800m (Zahara). For the boys we had silver in triple jump (Abu), gold in shot put (Tyler), gold in 400m (Reuben), Bronze in 1500m (Jack) and gold for the boys relay team. Very proud of the girls team that finished 7th. The boys, however, are now the Haringey Athletics Champions after winning the entire completion! It was a very proud moment seeing them lift the cup! Well done all!

Girls Shine at Haringey Cricket Cup! Monday 22nd May
We’ve really focused on developing cricket this year through lessons and our summer cricket club. On 22nd May our girls competed at the Haringey Cricket Cup. Our first game was a brilliant win against Rhodes Avenue School who ended up going on to win the cup! We then beat North Harringay as Lottie smashed 20 runs in the final over and beat Trinity School to finish top of our group. We lost our semi-final to Highgate Private School and played Muswell Hill for a bronze medal. Unfortunately, we lost by a single run to finish 4th in Haringey. This was our best girl’s cricket team ever with talent, enthusiasm and great team spirit throughout. Very proud of this group!
Girls Cricket Team: Eylyul, Athena, Lottie, Izabella (Indigo), Zahara, Khloe, Makayla
Hockey Quick Sticks Tournament – Tuesday 23rd May
This was the first time we’ve entered the Hockey tournament so weren’t sure what to expect. We played brilliantly winning most our games with Alexi, Elie and Jean standing out as top performers. Sadly, we couldn’t quite beat Muswell Hill for a medal and finished 4th overall. A great first effort!
Hockey Team: Fefe, Elie, Dominic, Alexi, Queenie, Jean, Lottie, Layla (and thanks to Layla’s mum for helping)
Boys Cricket Team at the Haringey Cup – Wednesday 24th May
After the girl’s cricket success, the boys were keen to replicate that effort. We lost our first game against Highgate Private School but it was a super close game where we competed very well with a top cricketing side. We then won 3 games in a row with the stand out match being a huge 50 run win against Tetherdown School. We ended up on the same points as Rhodes Avenue so the semi-final place was decided in a super 2 over game. Unfortunately, we lost that mini game by 1 run (again) and ended up in 5th overall in Haringey. A pretty great effort for one of our developing sports!
Boys Cricket Team: Bradley, Isaac, Eddie, Dreyon, Reuben, Dominic, Julian, Abu (and thanks to Reuben’s dad for helping)
(sadly we didn’t get any photos so you’ll have to imagine how good they were!
St Marys achieve Silver at Haringey Senior Quad Athletics! Thursday 25th May
On 25th May we competed at the Haringey Senior Quad Athletics event – 4 boys – 4 girls – 4 events. We had some remarkably results through the day – Reuben’s Javelin, Abu’s Long Jump, Karis’s 600m and Misha’s sprint were all exceptional. However, the performance of the day was Tyler’s 600m which he won by over 50m – a quite staggering gold medal! We went on to dominate the boys and the girl’s relays races – achieving gold in both races! When they read out the results we were delighted for Karis who achieved an individual overall bronze – the 3rd best female athlete in Haringey! Finally, they read the overall team results. Out of 17 schools we ended coming 2nd overall and picking up silver medals! We were disappointed however as we missed out on being champions by a single point! Still a brilliant achievement for this super talented group!

Haringey Cycling League -Round 5 – Friday 26th May
Our last competition of the summer was today’s cycling event, the 5th cycling fixture in the Haringey cycling league. The kids were fantastic as always with some great finishes! We’re yet to find out our final league position but it’s been a super year of cycling and we’ll be taking some of our dedicated cyclist to Herne Hill Velodrome for a unique cycling experience in July!
