26 Jan Sporting Update – Spring 1
Gymnastics Showcase!
Today on the last Friday of term we celebrated with a showstopping showcase in our Rectory Garden Celebration Assembly! We had children jumping off vaults, performing front handsprings, forward flips, straddle vaults, through vaults as well as straight, tuck and star jumps. As well as the 6 vault performers, we had 18 children performing their own floor routines. There were round offs, cartwheels, forward rolls, backward rolls, handstands, as well as a range of balances and shapes. I was super impressed with how creative and professional the routines were, and how brave the children were to perform. It’s a testament to the gymnastics talent in our school that I could have picked a completely different 24 children and the standard would be just as high… Well done all!

New Age Kurling @ APS School
We had a fantastic afternoon, coming in 4th out of 6 schools with a team that had no experience so we’ve very please with that. The children showed great sporting conduct, applauding all winners, and graciously shaking the hands of their opponents, whether they won or lost.

Indoor Athletics team finish 2nd to qualify for the finals!
On Thursday 15th January, we entered the indoor athletics event at St Thomas More School. There are 3 separate heats and the top 2 from each heat qualify for the grand finals. We had a fantastic afternoon with many strong events with Ezekiel and Adina winning the chest push, Amina winning long jump and Alayah excelling in the high jump. We also won several golds & silvers in the track events with Za’ni, Tyrese and Robyn dominating their heats. It was a fantastic team effort with everyone’s events scoring points and we finished 2nd out of 8 schools. A super proud day for all involved.
Athletics team finish 5th overall in Haringey!
At the finals, a week later, we changed our team slightly to give new students a chance and put everything into it. We had more success in both track and field, medalling regularly, however, the competition was fierce and we ended up finishing 5th, only 14 points off the bronze medals though. A huge well done to all who took part!

Cyclists show their power at the Indoor Roller Racing!
On Friday 16th January we sent 10 cyclists to the indoor roller racing at North Haringey School. This is always a brilliant competition where the children race against other schools on static bikes with their speed and distance shown on a large screen in front of a roaring crowd! We had some fantastic result with Alex M (gaining us Y4 bonus points), snatching an excellent silver and Alex P winning his heat, winning the next heat then finishing 2nd in a nail-biting final! Alice and Maelyn also had excellent races!

Lucky group attend Swimming gala at the Olympic Aquatic Centre!
On Friday 23rd January a lucky group of 11 children were invited to a swimming gala at the Olympic Aquatic Centre in Stratford. We had an amazing day, arriving early and being able to watch the team GB diving team practise their diving metres away from us! The swimming gala itself was loads of fun, with the children facing a range of challenges like Raft Race (collecting items for a raft and swimming it back), Treasure Hunt (hunting various mini treasures and throwing them in a bucket) and Ball Relay which finished with Jorgee and Tatum dunking a ball in a mini hoop! The children pushed themselves in each race and received a certificate and medal for their efforts throughout the day!

Gymnastics Season!
We’ve had a super start to the year in PE with children from both sites developing their gymnastics skills. It really is our specialist sport with so many of our young learners excelling at gymnastics. We’ve been learning floor routines with the children learning both a set routine and developing their own with rolls, jumps and balances! We’re also blessed with incredible gymnastics apparatus which children from Nursery through to Y6 have been enjoying. A great way to escape the rain!
