World Book Day 2024
Scholastic Book Fair
A big thank you to all our parents and carers who have supported us during the Book Fairs at Rectory Gardens and Church Lane. You have spend £960 to support your children’s love for reading. That helped us to raise a massive £500 to spend on books.
Rectory Gardens
We had lots of fun on World Book Day and absolutely loved dressing up in our favourite book character costumes or in our pyjamas! The children went to so much effort and we really enjoyed hearing about each other’s favourite books and exciting characters.
Gavin Childress bought some very old and interesting books in to show us. Before lunch, we had a special assembly where Mrs O’Brien read us one of her favourite stories. The story was a little bit naughty and we all laughed a lot!
In the afternoon, we paired up with other classes and read to each other. Year 5 walked down to Church Lane and read with Year 2 children. This was a great opportunity to see each other and share our love of reading.
Church Lane
We started the day with reading ‘The Little Wooden Robot And The Log Princess’ by Tom Gauld. We then did various activities in our classes like making a poster for the missing princess, designing a new robot, writing comic strips for the story as well as writing about the adventures they could have had.
In the hall, we had a day of activities relating to the book. In the Inventor’s Lab, we made junk model robots, designing new robots, constructions of wagons and making beetle story puppets. In the Storytelling area, we wrote in mini books, created peg puppets for the character and make stick puppets to retell the story.
The most fun was had in the Witch’s Lab! Magic potions and spells were made and cast! Lists of ingredients were written and added to the Big Book of Potions and Spells.
In Cartography, the children using directional language to work out how to get around the setting of the story on a huge floor map.
We ended the day with a whole school assembly where we shared our favourite books and characters in our dressing up outfits.
The Witch (Mrs Molloy) visited all the classes to gather ingredients for the Magic Potion Couldron!
Year 1 posted their missing log princess posters in the playground and coloured in the setting and characters for the story. The children invented and created in the Inventors Lab and Ms Beeson was challenged to find the settings using directional language.
