Dear Parents/Carers,
Parent Consultation Meetings
I hope that you managed to secure a meeting with your child’s class teacher this week to discuss the progress that they are making in all aspects of their learning and development. I also hope that you got an opportunity to look at some of your child’s work in their books and/or portfolios and that they were able to proudly tell you about their achievements so far this year. If however, on this occasion, you were unable to secure an appointment with your child’s class teacher, do please let the school office know and a meeting will be arranged at a mutually convenient time between yourself and your child’s class teacher.
NEU Strike
I am sorry that this week, we have had to again close the school. As you know, this is because of a dispute between the National Education Union and the government over teacher pay and school funding. Closing the school is never something that we want to do and not a decision that is ever taken lightly. We very much hope that a resolution is reached imminently to avoid the further planned strike in two weeks time.
World Book Day
Our thanks to Mrs Molloy and Mrs Frohock, our English leaders, for organising this year’s World Book Day. Whether children donned a crazy hair style or wore their favourite book character costume, much fun was had as together, we again celebrated the joy and importance of reading.
Disco Fever
Thank you also to the PSA for organising the Church Lane disco last week Friday as well as to so many parents for supporting such a fun event. Tonight, it is the turn of Rectory Gardens, and the PSA is hopeful that this event will be equally successful; not only in terms of fund raising, but also in terms of providing another opportunity for our community to come together and have fun.
Key events over the next two weeks:
- Paris Trip Meeting for Year 5 Parents – Tuesday 7th March, 8am: This will be held at Rectory Gardens. Please come along to this event and find out all about this exciting ‘rite of passage’ trip. Do also bring your child along to this meeting should you wish to.
- Maths Stay & Play – Wednesday 8th March, from drop-off at both Church Lane and Rectory Gardens. We will be having a maths ‘Stay and Play’ event for 20 minutes at the very start of the day. Do come along to this and join your child playing some fun maths fluency games.
- When I Grow Up Day – Thursday 9th March. This event provides opportunities for your children to learn more about careers and opportunities that will be available to them when they grow up. Children will not only speak to visiting adults, learning about a multitude of different professions, they will also speak to students who once came to St Mary’s, and who have been through secondary school to gain an understanding about their experiences as they grow up. My thanks in advance to Ms Simmons, our Personal, Social, Health and Economics leader for organising this informative and engaging event and to those people, including some of our parents who have volunteered to come in. Children are also invited to dress up for the job they aspire to do when they are an adult.
- Science Week – Beginning Monday 13th March. Watch out for lots of fun events and trips that are happening this week, organised by our science leader, Mr Gould.
Wishing you a restful and enjoyable weekend,
Calvin Henry
