Dear Parents and Carers,
What a fantastic two weeks we have had at St Mary’s. Children in the nursery, Y1, Y2 and Y5 are enjoying their specialist art lessons with Tabitha Lincoln learning skills and being creative. We have had children attending various sporting events, including a bowling competition and trips to a Hindu temple and the Horniman Museum. All of these things are enhancing the education and experiences of our children which is so important. St Mary’s really is a wonderful school and I feel privileged to be leading it into the future.
School Development Priorities and Coffee Morning
Our School Progress Coffee Morning, where we will discuss our key priority areas for this year, will take place next week on Tuesday 10th October at 9.15am at the Church Lane site. As well as me being able to share the things that will be our focus this academic year it would also be great for me to meet and have time to chat to more parents. Please come and join me.
Harvest Festival
Harvest Festival celebrates the time of year when crops have been gathered from the fields and people can reflect and give thanks for the food that they have. As we give thanks for the food we have, we also reflect on those that are less fortunate and do not have access to enough food.
This gives us an opportunity to live out our school vision, putting some of our values into action! Can you show compassion, support for our community and give hope (three of our school values)? We are collecting donations for the Hornsey Foodbank and need your help! The items you can donate should be non-perishable and can include things like tins of meat, fish or vegetables, shower gel, washing up liquid or pasta (see poster in the gallery below).
If you can donate please bring items in on the morning of Wednesday 18th October so we can display them before we have our Harvest Festival Assembly. Our assembly will start at 9.30am and we would love to see you there.
Parent School Association (PSA)
It is only with the wonderful support of volunteers that we can put on events such as Bonfire Night, Christmas and Summer Fairs. We all enjoy these occasions and it is fantastic for the community to come together. To enable this to happen we need you! There are three things that you can do to make sure these events are successful:
- Attend events and join in the fun
- Offer some support on the day eg offer an hour of your time to run a stall
- Meet with school and other parents to help plan, prepare and organise events before they happen.
The last point is extremely important and is what we need the most help with at this time. If you can help please contact the school office and register your interest or attend the next PSA Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 18th October at Church Lane.
Baby Loss Awareness Week 9-15th October
With Alexandra Palace being so close to our school, you may be interested to know they are helping to launch this years Baby Loss Awareness Week. We all know someone that has been impacted by the loss of a baby and it’s good that people are talking about this subject openly. Alexandra Palace will light up its mast in baby blue and pink and there will be a ribbon display in Priory Park and outside St Andrews Church. If you would like any support or information on this subject, please click here. Several events will take place around the UK to mark the occasion.
We have been promised some unusually warm and sunny weather this weekend, so I hope that you get the opportunity to be outdoors and enjoy it!
With warm wishes,
Jane O’Brien
