Celebrating Black History and Culture
Shareen from the Steel Pan Agency came to visit Rectory Gardens today to lead a series of workshops on steel pans. She started with a demonstration whilst she explained the history of the pans and what each one is called and how to play. The children were very attentive and then everyone danced whilst Shareen played Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot which warmed everyone up on a cold and frosty morning. After the assemly each class had an individual workshop, gradually learning the notes and building up to playing together. Here are some of Crimson Class making a great sound after only a little while of learning.
If any of your children enjoyed the workshops and are interested in pursuing steel pans, Haringey Music Service have a range of groups, from very basic beginners right up to the Steel Pan Orchestra. Find out more about how to join here: Haringey Steel Bands
