French Update – Spring 1
At Church Lane the children have made a fantastic start to the term in French. In Nursery, we have been learning colours through a mix of games and songs. Our new starters have taken to it so well! Goslings Class have been extending their superheroes topic by learning to describe what a superhero wears in French. They can now recognise some colours and clothing items. Following their trip to London Zoo, Tangerine Class have been describing wild animals in French and listened to the story Dear Zoo in French. Buttercup have learned to count to ten in French and are now using the numbers out of order successfully. Next half term, the other classes in each year group will have their turn to develop their French skills. All of this fantastic learning in KS1 really helps to support their progress in French when they begin their statutory language study in Year Three.
At Rectory Gardens, we have had some excellent progress in French. Year Three have been learning about classroom equipment and can now say and write simple sentences about what is in their pencil case. Year Four have been getting stuck into some grammar by talking about word order while learning how to describe their hair and eye colour in French. As well as writing another letter to their French pen friends, Year Five have learned to describe where they live and the rooms of the house. Year Six have been grappling with the French number system up to 100, truly putting their maths skills to the test. Ask them how to say 99 in French!*
