Dear Parents and Carers,
We come to the end of another half term that has been jam-packed with learning and fun.
Staff leavers
It is with great sadness that as we arrive at half term, we have to say goodbye to three of our beloved staff family members.
Mrs Warburton has been with us for 18 months, working in reception and more recently in our nursery. Mrs Warburton has led a wonderful team and has provided the best possible start to children in our nursery. Her care and level of expertise has been exceptional and she will be sorely missed by all.
Miss Murray has been with us for two years, more recently taking her beloved Jade class up into Scarlet Class. Miss Murray is an exceptional teacher with a passion for giving children the best educational outcomes, coupled with a caring, nurturing kindness, leading to a loving bond with her children.
Ms Clarke has been at St Mary’s for fourteen years. In that time, she has worked in every year group in the school. Her unwavering commitment to our school community has led to many of you knowing and loving the experience of being in her presence. Adults and children alike have benefitted from her wonderful calm demeanour.
We have been blessed to have these three wonderful educators as part of our school and we wish them the very best of luck in their future endeavours
Safer Internet Day
As part of our ongoing mission to help children to stay safe online, Mr Cummins gave a useful assembly on Tuesday as part of Safer Internet Day. You can read the presentations here, and please talk to you children to see what they learnt from the assembly
St Paul’s Cathedral – LDBS Schools Celebration
Mr Baptiste and Ms Clarke took 8 Year 6 children along to a very special service in St Paul’s Cathedral, put on by the London Diocesan Board for Schools, who oversee church schools in London. The theme was “The Power of Forgiveness: Restoring Relationship” and we were very proud to add our piece to the jigsaw created by all the schools to illustrate that when something has been broken, forgiveness can help to mend it. One piece on it’s own is only part of the story, but we can see a bigger picture when we join pieces together. You can see some photos below.
St Mary’s PSA
The PSA are planning lots of great activities, so please see dates in the Important Dates section below and add them to your calendar. The recent cake sales took £169, which is pretty impressive. Thank you to them for all their hard work. Next up is the Church Lane disco on Friday 27th February (details below).
Increasing Measles Cases in Haringey
There has been a rise in cases of measles in Haringey, affecting children who have not received the full dose of their vaccinations. The symptoms for measles usually start with cold-like symptoms (cough, runny nose), a high temperature, and red eyes (conjunctivitis), followed by a rash a few days later. The rash looks brown or red on white skin. It may be harder to see on brown and black skin. The rash typically starts on the head and spreads down the body. Some people may also get small white spots in their mouth. If you suspect your child has measles, you shouldn’t take them to a school or medical setting, but should call 111 for advice. Please read a letter from Will Maimaris, Director of Public Health Haringey here Haringey Measles Letter for Parents and Carers
Tesco Appeal
Don’t forget to put the blue token in the St Mary’s box if you’re shopping at local Tesco shops over the coming week – it would be great to win! We’re definitely winning in the Hornsey one.
Olive Dining
Olive Dining, who provide the meals at St Mary’s, would like to get some feedback from parents and children. In the images below are two QR codes – one for adults to complete, and the other for children to complete. Please take a minute or two to complete the surveys.
Wishing you all a happy, and hopefully dryer, half term holiday and see you all back in school on Monday 23rd February.
Best wishes,
St Mary’s CE Primary School
