Dear Parents/Carers,
School almost feels like what it should be – it has been a long time coming!
This is because since our last newsletter and in the run up to the Easter break, it has been a very busy couple of weeks. It brings me great joy to see so many fun and creative events, visits and competitions fully under way once more.
Events over the past couple of week that have already happened include:
- Science Week last week, including a visit from the scientist Dr Szydlo at Rectory Gardens
- Year 3 & 4 children taking part in a Haringey-wide gymnastics competition at Hornsey School for Girls
- WCIT music Easter concerts to celebrate children’s progress in the playing of their instruments on Wednesday
- Bicycle Roller-Racing competition at our school yesterday
- Bibliobuzz Reading Awards for Year 5 children at Alexandra Palace today
And events that are either currently underway or planned between now and when we break up for Easter next week Friday include:
- Sustrans Walk & Wheel Competition, encouraging children to walk, cycle or scoot to school – non-uniform Friday + bring £1 please
- Year 3 & 4 Cycle Training at St Mary’s next week Monday – Thursday
- Year 3 & 4 Mini-Tennis competition next week Monday at Albert Road
- Year 5 & 6 Gymnastics competition at Hornsey School for Girls next Tuesday
- Our school choir visit to the Royal Albert Hall next Friday as part of the Haringey Schools’ Music Festival
And of course, this week we have once again been able to send our Year 6 children on their memorable school journey, which is in Osmington Bay in Dorset. They have had the most wonderful week taking part in fun and challenging activities as well as simply spending time relaxing in and enjoying each others’ company.
Also, next half-term, our Year 5 children will once again be able to visit Paris for the day to explore the sights of this wonderful city, meet their French pen friends and of course, practise their French.
Parent Survey Results
Thank you so very much for completing the parent survey. I apologise for asking you to do this again, but it was worth it, as rather than having the 46 responses the first time round through the school website, 30 more parents responded to the survey, making for a better representation of your views.
The link below will take you to the results of the survey. This makes for very pleasing reading. For example, 98% of parents say that their child is happy at our school, 99% say that they feel safe, and 100% of parents say that their child does well at St Mary’s and that our school lets them know how well their child is doing. Notably, 100% of parents say that they would recommend St Mary’s to another parent – thank you!
However, we take none of this for granted and know that we still have much to do to become even better. For example, we know that some parents would like to have more after school clubs at our Church Lane Site and that additional curriculum time be spent on creative arts activities; this was reflected in some of your free text responses. Your findings and comments will therefore be fully considered by myself, my senior leadership team and school governors, so that things will indeed get ever better at our school. Once again, thank you so very much for taking the time to complete this survey.

Easter Events Next week
Next week, we have the legendary Easter parade with our Church Lane children waving their palm branches high along Hornsey High Street, accompanied by Bayleaf the Donkey. This leads to an outdoor Easter service on the green outside Rectory Gardens, led by the Church Team. On Friday 1st April we will have our Easter Service at 10am at Hornsey Parish Church where children retell and act out the Easter Story, including through song. Do please come along and support this event should you wish to.
Please have a very restful weekend and wishing our St Mary’s mothers a lovely Mothers Day,
Calvin Henry
