School Games Mark – St Mary’s Achieve Platinum Award for the first time!
I’m delighted to announce St Marys have achieved the highest level of award from the School Games Mark – the government led school sports scheme. Achieving platinum is a testament to the various ways we promote sports and physical activity here at St Marys with our continuing aim to instil a lifelong love of sport and physical activity and a culture that celebrates every pupils sporting achievements!

Haringey Gymnastics Competition
As the year 6’s were busy enjoying their end of term parties we sent a group year 4 & 5’s to compete at the Haringey Gymnastic Competition. They had to learn two full floor routines and then perform a jumping vault. It’s not easy performing in front of other schools and Ms Beeson said they dealt with the nerves very well and performed brilliantly. They worked really hard for weeks at home and during their lunch break learning the routines. The year 3 & 4’s finished 4th – so close to a bronze medal! Iya, Agnes and Alina really stole the show with their routines while Khaleel, Jono, Alex, Joseph and Carmen performed outstanding vaults. Well done all.

Tennis for All
As the year comes to the end and Wimbledon starts, children from both sites having been honing their tennis skills! We’re blessed at St Mary’s with ample space and excellent equipment so every child can enjoy playing tennis and developing their skills in lessons. Children have been developing hand eye coordination, footwork and control of the racket and ball and it’s been great seeing their progress!
St Marys Win Bronze at Girls Haringey Cricket Cup!
We had brilliant day this week attending the girls Haringey Cricket Cup. After a strong start in the opening group games, including a big win against Rhodes Avenue, we were put in the winners group for the afternoon (top 3 schools in Haringey). In the winners group we lost by 2 runs to Coldfall in a nail-biting loss but then beat eventual Champions Muswell hill by 12 runs! As all the teams in the top group had won one game each they decided the trophy on runs scored and we were just behind so ended up with bronze medals. It’s incredible how well we performed considering we were up against schools where many children go to local cricket clubs. We were 2 runs away from winning the whole tournament and we left with bronze medals and feeling incredibly proud! Stand out performers were Elena (captain), Amina and Lya though all the children did brilliantly!

If your child is interested in cricket, we are lucky to be surrouned by so many clubs. Below are some local summer camps and most offer free/discounted rates for free school meals:

Unfortunately the rest of the week’s sporting fixtures (the boys cricket and final cycling event of the year) were cancelled/postponed because of the extreme heat.
Beat the heat!
We beat the heat this week by moving to less strenuous sports like lawn bowls, table tennis and volleyball!
Our cyclists compete at world famous Olympic Velodrome!
We had an incredible day competing in the Haringey cycling league at the Olympic Velodrome Velopark racing track. In the team races we won 3 golds and one silver and in the hill sprints we got all silver and golds! So many highlights and a brilliant team spirit throughout! We were the dominant school all day and we’ll see how that affects the overall standings. What a day!

Girls Shine at Haringey Athletics Championship (20th May)
A huge well done to all of our athletes but especially our girls team who came 5th out of 16 and were only 5 points off a bronze medal! All the events contribute to the overall result so everyone played their part but here are some of the highlights – Adina (gold for Javelin), Amina (gold for triple jump), Robyn (bronze shot putt and gold sprint), Emilia in year 4 (silver and bronze in 800 and 1500m), Ezekiel (gold shot putt) and boys 4th in the relay race.

St Mary Power into 3rd in the Haringey Cycling league!
On Friday 22nd May we went to the Ducketts common for a round 4 of the Haringey Cycling League competition. We had a fantastic day with so many strong results. Shawna really stole the show winning all her races in style! Godsend also won both his races with his brother Godwin just behind with a silver! We had many strong finishes and the overall results helped us power into 3rd, super impressive considering we’ve attended one less round than the other schools. All results and details here.
Next stop – Olympic Park Velodrome!
