Summer 2 Sporting Update
Year 3-4 Cricket Cup
In the last competition of the year our mixed Y3/Y4 cricket team had a wonderful day at North Middlesex Cricket Club. We started the day with a 27-run win against a good Coleridge side with Kimberley hitting big sixes and a memorable catch from captain Jono. We then beat Rhodes Avenue B where Roman and Alex M stood out with their bowling and Liberty and Jani with some excellent fielding. We won our last group game against North Haringey where Frank, Franky Jnr and Carmen hit key runs. After winning our group, we qualified for the semi-final where we ended up losing narrowly to South Haringey, despite an amazing effort from all with Alex P hitting 5 boundaries from an over! We were outstanding all day and finished 4th in Haringey!
Cricket Team: Jani, Liberty, Kimberley, Carmen, Jono, Roman, Franky Jnr, Alex M, Frank, Alex
Gymnastics Cup
On Thursday 10th July we entered the Haringey gymnastics competition. The children had spent weeks learning the two floor routines which are performed from memory and in silence, in front of other schools. It takes real bravery to perform like this and I was very impressed with the skill and composure from our young gymnasts. They also performed a vault over the box and we saw some outstanding performances; with Alina and Walter’s vaults standing out. We were once again tantalizingly close to medals as both teams finished 4th in Haringey.
Gymnastics team: Walter, Jah’mai, Lily, Mya, Alina, Agnes, Khaleel, Joseph
Haringey Netball League comes to an end with St Marys achieving Bronze!
While most leave on a Friday to escape for the weekend our girls netball team have been travelling far and wide to compete after school in the Haringey Netball League. It’s been a fantastic competition where I’ve been so proud of the progress we’ve made as a team and the team spirit shown throughout. We finished the league with a hard fought away win at Weston Park, securing bronze medals in the process! A huge well done to all involved, some of whom have been in Netball Club for 4 years!

Sports Day 2025
From Mrs O’Brien:
What a fantastic Sports Day we had! With the perfect temperature and a brilliant turnout from families, it was a joy to see the school community come together to celebrate sport, teamwork, and determination. Congratulations to Grove House, who took home the trophy this year. A special mention goes to Malachi and Daniel, who broke the St Mary’s long jump record with a jump of 3.25m – an incredible achievement! Throughout the day, the children demonstrated excellent technique, teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship. They encouraged and supported one another, showing the very best of St Mary’s spirit.
A big thank you to Mr Oakley, Mr Allison, and all the fantastic helpers who worked so hard to organise and run the day – we couldn’t have done it without you. And thank you to all the families who joined us – your support helped make the day even more special.
Mr Oakley says: At Rectory Gardens, Grove are champions for the 2nd year running! Though with 25 points in it, Rectory were a jump and welly wang away from winning it! Grove’s track success made the difference…
A huge and special thanks goes to Ed’s mum, Nada, for her amazing action shots – www.nadaphotography.co.uk

Girls Knock Them For 6 At Haringey Cricket Cup!
Ms Clarke and I attended the Girls Haringey Cricket Cup last week and we all had a fantastic day! We started with a huge 65 run win over St Gilda and followed that with another big win against St Michaels. We struggled against a strong Rhodes Avenue side and then needed to beat Coldfall to ensure we left with medals (top 3). Sadly, we fell agonisingly short, losing by 6 runs in a super close game. We went on to beat Bounds Green and finish 5th but we both felt super proud of their efforts. Kayla-Rose and Stefania hit some huge 6s, Alicia (our fantastic captain) organised us well and every girl contributed brilliantly. Well done all!
Cricket team: Kayla-Rose, Rauhah, Eliora, Amina, Elanur, Stefania, Maria, Alicia, Ada
Haringey Summer Netball League starts with a bang!
This term, we are participating in the Girls Haringey Netball League which is the best netball primary schools in the borough competition against each other every Friday. Our first week was fantastic; after a slightly nervous start we improved rapidly going on to beat Coleridge 4-1 and narrowly losing to Rokesly 2-1 in a super close game. Some of the girls have been training with me for years and I was beaming with pride to see them playing netball at the highest level (at this age group) and doing it with a smile on their face! We left excited and very tired and looking forward to the next fixture.
Netball team: Lya, Deena, Amina, Maria, Krystle, Stefania, Robin, Mabel (plus Tayshia & Agnes from next week)
Final Cycling Event at Finsbury Park
After an incredible year of cycling, which has included participation in the Haringey Cycling League, bikeability cycling training for Year 4 and Year 5, and a competitive trip to the iconic Velodrome, it was the final cycling event of the year! The event took place in Finsbury Park and we sent several year 4s to get them ready for next year! They did brilliantly well with Alex Page getting Silver in the A race final – incredible considering he was up against year 6s! Ada and Lily also contributed to strong results as we ended the year with a flourish.
Cycling team: Alexander, Zaiah, Charlie, Chance, Sonny, Kacia, Lily, Ada, Zoe, Yanet
Great Progress in the Year 5-6 Boys Cricket Cup
On 4th June we went to the Haringey Y5-6 Boys Cricket Cup. This is a tournament where most schools who enter have several club cricketers and I said to the boys our target was to win 1 game. Well in the first game we smashed 6’s and 4’s and took some fantastic wickets to beat South Haringey by 35 runs! The boys made great progress throughout the day, learning very quickly! We went on to beat Bounds Green and we narrowly lost to Tetherdown in a thriller. Kairo and Charlie stood out with their catching, bowling and batting but it was a real team effort!
Boys Cricket team: Jono (Y4), Kailo, Jah’mai, Charlie, Noah, Kairo, Ed, Emir, Ray
Athletics week – Quad & Haringey Athletics Championship!
The following week was athletics week! We had 3 athletics tournaments in a row, Quad Athletics, Year 3-4 Athletics and the Haringey Athletic Championship! While some think athletics is an individual sport it’s really the ultimate team event as every throw, jump and spring/run earns points for the school. I was so proud of the team spirit we showed, as every child was cheered on loudly by their teammates and congratulated after! We had some fantastic individual performances – Chance won shot put gold, Stefania earned silver in the 1500m and 600m, Kimberley won sprint gold, Tyrese won the standing long jump, Preston medalled for his running long jump and we had countless other medals in running, jumping and throwing events. Around 20 schools took part each day and St Marys finished a respectable 5th overall. A huge well done to all our young athletes!
Athletics Team:
Year 3-4: Kimberly, Tayshia, Adeena, Jani, Alex P, Tyrese, Keydon, Jono
Year 5-6: Daniel, Maria, Krystle, Amina, Wealthy, Danya, Kayla-Rose, Tamika, Stefania, Ada, Walter, Noah, Emir, Thiago, Ray, Jono, Preston, Ezekiel, Chance, Kairo
St Marys Cyclists Shine at the Iconic Velodrome in the Olympic Park!
We had a supremely enjoyable day racing at the Velopark in the Olympic Park. The Velopark is an outdoor professional race track that goes around the Velodrome stadium. In an array of super exciting races, we had some great results with Ada gaining a double gold and Amina, Charlie, Preston and Lily all achieving top 3 finishes. I was super proud of the cycling team as they put everything into each race and showed great teamwork by encouraging and supporting their team-mates. A memorable day for all. Thank you to the parents of Charlie, Lily and Ada for supporting too.

Sitting Down Volleyball
On 1st May, a small group of children took part in the Sitting Down Volleyball event. This was an inclusive event, designed to raise awareness of Paralympic sport and was a big hit with the children as they learnt new skills, had fun and picked up a cheeky bronze medal along the way. Well done all!
Bikeability: Cycle training for Y4 and Y5!
Over the last two weeks over 40 children gained a cycling award at school. Through the Bikeability training (cycle proficiency) Y4 children gained their Level 1 award and Y5 completed their level 2 award. The children enjoyed developing their skills both in and outside of school (Y5), developing their cycling skills and their awareness of road cycling and how to be a safe cyclist. Alongside the Haringey Cycle League, we’ve really developed cycling at St Marys and this important life skill can make a big difference to making a greener, more active community. Well done to all involved!
Haringey Basketball Cup
On 28th March we participated in the Haringey Basketball Cup. With 20 schools we were put in to a group of 5. Only the winners of each group had the opportunity for medals. We started with big wins against St Martins and Lea Valley, we drew with St Pauls and lost to Coldfall – the eventual winners. In the following round we won 2 more against Rokesly and Harris and drew another. We played some excellent basketball and, on another day, could have achieved a medal. Za’ni was a standout performer but it was a real team effort. We ended up 7th out of 20. Well done to all involved.
Basketball Team: Za’ni, Noah, Emir, Jah’mai, Maria, Krystle, Yanet.
St Mary’s Shine at Highgate Dance Festival
On 26th March, our dance team went to the Highgate Dance Festival. Prior to this we held a Dance-Off to decide who got to attend and I was blown away by the amount of talent on show! Two groups were selected and they combined their dance to create an amazing performance. It’s a fantastic event where the children experience a dance masterclass and learn a new dance from scratch from Highgate School 6th formers. In the afternoon, each school performs that dance as well as their own to a full auditorium. Our performance had a ton of charisma and looked very professional. It was received with lots of cheering from an impressed audience. A fantastic experience for those involved.
Dance Team: Amina, Shayla, Olivia, Kacia, Danya, Alayah, Mabel, Maia, Amelia, Alicia, Tamika, Harmony, Robyn, Rauhah, Gaby
