Year 4 Learn About Refugee Week With A Visit To The Barbican Cinema
In English, Year 4 have been writing narratives and diary entries inspired by the book The Journey by Francesca Sanna. To consolidate our learning, Scarlet Class & some Year 5 students went to the Barbican to participate in some activities for Refugee Week on Tuesday. We started our morning by watching 4 short films that highlighted the struggles refugees face when leaving their country and how they might feel when they enter a new country. It was also interesting to hear the perspective of an Iranian refugee in between films. Kimberley remarked, “Ali was very inspiring because he told us about his journey and how he left his family and friends behind for a safer life.”
After the films, we watched some school children sing songs from other countries as we sang along with them. Their classes, with help from some music teachers, had created their own songs with lyrics that described the challenges refugees face when leaving their country. It was so interesting and inspiring to listen to the music. Ed said, ‘I really enjoyed the beat that they created,’ and we all enjoyed dancing along to the music! It was a wonderful day full of learning!
