Spring 1 2025 Update
Indoor Roller Racing Comes to Rectory Gardens
The following day (Friday 7th February) we hosted the 5th round of the Haringey Cycling League with 7 other schools joining us for the Indoor Roller Event. As described previously, the indoor exercise bikes are linked up to a big screen and children can see virtually where they are in the race on the big screen and how fast they’re going. We had home support this time and it paid off with great wins for Lily, Alex, Oliver and Amina. Scarlet Class were having their PE at the right time and also got to enjoy some indoor cycling! On to the next one – back in the cold!
Cycling Team: Olivia, Amina, Robyn, Wealthy, Lily, Kailo, Alexander, Oliver, Malachi, Chance
New Age Kurling at APS
On Thursday 6th February we participated in the inclusive New Age Kurling event at APS School. Similar to ice curling but indoors, children have to slide the ‘rocks’ to get as close as they can to the ‘house’. We had some good wins on the day with Brian standing out as our best player and Emily delivering a perfect throw in the last game! The children loved trying a new and fun sport! Staff came back saying we needed to get our own set for school as it such a hit! Well done all!
New Age Kurling team: Kenny, Jojo, Darius, Leona, Emily, Ivan, Brian, Morgan
Haringey Indoor Athletics Finals
After doing brilliantly to qualify, on 27th January we took our place at the Haringey Indoor Athletics finals. This was the top 8 schools now competing to represent Haringey at the London Youth Games so the competition was very high! We had some fantastic jumps, throws and sprints with Stefania and Naomi winning their 2×2 relay, a winning long jump from Ray, excellent triple jumps from Kayla-Rose and Ciana and many other memorable moments. We finished 5th in Haringey and were less than 20 points off bronze so I was super proud. The team were brilliant at cheering each other on and showing that St Marys team spirit!
Team: Naomi E, Daniel, Ed, Preston, Ezekiel, Wealthy, Kayla-Rose, Stefania, Krystle, Amina, Tamika, Noah, Emir, Za’ni, Kimberley, Ada, Akei’ah-Ra, Didi, Maria, Thiago, Godwin, Ciana
Climbing, Jumping, Swinging and Balancing – Gymnastics Apparatus!
We’re blessed at St Marys to enjoy such fantastic gymnastics apparatus and equipment and all the children from Nursery to Year 6 have been developing their climbing, jumping and balancing for the last two weeks! It’s been a fantastic term of gymnastics that will conclude with a gymnastics assembly – more to follow!
Middlesex Cricket Club Masterclasses for Y3 & Y4
Y3 & Y4 have been lucky enough to have weekly cricket coaching sessions from Middlesex Cricket Club, delivered by Mikey. It’s so great to see how his basic exercises build up in complexity to increase the children’s skill set. Roll on summer, the gentle thwack of leather on willow and cricket teas!
St Marys Qualify for Finals of Indoor Athletics!
On 9th January our Year 4-6 Athletics team participated in the Haringey Indoor Athletics Competition. There are 3 heats to this competition with the top 2 from each heat plus best 3rd place qualifying for the finals. After some fantastic athletics where Ezekiel won gold in shot put, Zani and Wealthy won gold in high jump and the boys won their 4×1 relay race we found out the results. We’re happy to announce we qualified for the finals and will be back on 27th January to attempt to win a medal. Well done all!

The following day (10th January) we sent our cycling team to compete in the indoor Roller Racing event in the Haringey Cycling League. This is a super event where the children race on static exercise bikes that are linked up to a big screen and they can see, virtually, where they are in the race on the big screen. We competed very well in a high ability competition with Ada standing out with 2 big wins! Well done to the whole team!

Children Develop Their Skills In Gymnastics Through ‘Floor Routines’
It’s gymnastics season again and we’ve started with floor routines. The children across both sites have been learning balances, rolls and jumps and performing them to the rest of the class. I’ve been super impressed with both their love of gymnastics as well as the progress made throughout the school!
We move onto using the apparatus in the coming weeks, we’ll also be having a gymnastics assembly as well as a gymnastics trial ahead of the Haringey gymnastics competition. On we roll!
