Christmas at St Mary’s 2024
A Special Visitor
The children at Church Lane and Rectory Gardens had a surprise visitor yesterday – Santa who brought them class gifts and checked that they were being nice! Thank you Santa for taking the time to see us!
Our TOTALLY AMAZING Nativity
Wow – what an incredible whole school nativity with the whole school all together performing Children of The World. The children sang and acted their socks off, and moved everyone with their wonderful performance. A special thank you to Mrs Peacock for spreading her musical magic, and all the staff who organised and energized the children so brilliantly. A thank you to the parents and carers who helped with costumes, and helping their children to rehearse but the biggest thank you of all goes to the children who did so amazingly well and made us all SO PROUD!
Rectory Gardens to Horrible Histories at Ally Pally
This year Rectory Gardens went up to Horrible Histories Horrible Christmas’. It was a great show with lots of history of Christmas’ past and the story of the Nativity. Sorry to all the parents & carers that they were a little late back but we hope you agree it was worth it!
Trumpets & Trombones Concert
Our second WCIT concert of the week featured the trumpets and trombones – with Crimson class, plus the continuers from Turquoise and Indigo. It was toe-tappingly good and so amazing to see the progression, and how much the Y4 children have learnt in one term. Thank you to Clara and Ben, the WCIT teachers, for being so motivating.
Christmas Dinner at St Mary’s
Our amazing Olive Dining team – Souad, Lorraine, Abi, Karen, Tina, Barry and Grace pulled out all the stops to make a truly scrumptious Christmas dinner on Wednesday. Thank you so much to them for all their hard work, and beautiful decoration. It was also Christmas Jumper day and the children looked amazing in their colourful tops.
Christmas Concerts
Today was the first of our Christmas concerts and it was a cracker. It featured Y4 Scarlet violins plus the Y5 & Y6 continuers from Topaz and Amethyst. Also taking part were Mrs Peacock’s Choir, Band and Ukulele Club and everyone enjoyed a thoroughly musical treat.
Christmas Fair
After lots of planning by the PSA, it was finally the day of our Christmas Fair, and everything was wonderful. The delicious food arrived in for the International Food, the toys arrived for the toy stall, the jars came in for Jolly Jars and our Tombola table was groaning under the weight of so many goodies. Our external stallholders helped make the evening special too, as did the lovely singing by the choir. Thank you to our sponsors, Philip Alexander for hard work on the bar. Thank you to everyone who came along to support, and to help with the set up and take down as well as helping out on the stalls. Thank you PSA for a lovely evening.
Choir Being Christmassy at Ally Pally
Mrs Peacock and Mme Williamson and some kind parents took our choir up to Ally Pally to take part in a Christmas sing-song. It was a very fun afternoon and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves
Christingle Workshop
The children from Church Lane all went to Holy Innocents Church last week to make a Christingle, a symbol of Christmas made from a decorated orange. Fr Ben talked to the children about their significance and the children had lots of fun decorating them.
Elves on the Green
We have had some local elves giving out Christmas magic on the area in front of Rectory Gardens as some lovely decorations have gone up on the trees and pergola – thank you elves! We think it’s the same elves who come and litter pick and generally tidy up the area. If you happen to see them being busy out there, please say thank you!
Advent Assembly
We enjoyed our very special Advent Assembly this morning. All the children came together as we learned the story of Advent, lighting candles to represent the start of the Christmas season. The children learned that the candles represent Patriarchs & Matriarchs, Prophets, John the Baptist, Mary and Baby Jesus. Our special tradition of the youngest and oldest child in the school turning on the lights was very magical.
Christmas Hoops
Have you seen our Christmas hoop display in the main hall at Rectory Gardens yet this year? Some magnificent efforts from the classes. You’ll have the opportunity to see them at the Christmas Fair on Friday.
