Year 6 Trip to Natural History Museum
Phoebe gives us a lovely description of their fun, informative and thought-provoking day at the museum:
“When we got to school, we made sure we all went to the toilet and then left school and walked to Turnpike Lane. We took the train to the Natural History Museum. When we got there, we put our bags away then we got a booklet and saw some fossils. After we completed the booklet, we did a workshop. At the workshop we talked about adaptation and we even saw what horses used to look like millions of years ago! The discussions were really fun and interesting, even the adults like Mr Gould, Miss Brewer and Ms Beeson joined in! After the workshops, our bellies were rumbling soooo much so then we all ate lunch (which was really yummy!) After lunch, we all went to look at different animals such as dinosaurs, bears, marine iguanas and cats. (At this point my legs were really hurting!) After that, it was time for us to leave. We took the train to Turnpike Lane then walked back to school. When we arrived at school, we had some extra playtime. My legs had completely stopped working so I just laid down in the sun. After that, it was hometime and we all went home. And that was my day at the Natural History Museum!”
Kairo had a great day too:
“On Tuesday, we were lucky enough to go to the Natural History Museum. At 9.30am, we set off to Turnpike Lane. Luckily I was partnered with Charlie so I never got bored. Once we reach the the platform, we didn’t have to wait long to get on the train. Excitement started to flow within us, as we couldn’t wait to arrive at our destination. We all popped out our books and started reading. If you know me, you know I love maths challenges so I did a Sudoku and read my anime book. Towards the end of the journey, Mr Gould and I started to count the stops until our stop.
As we stepped off the platform, we entered the pathway leading towards the museum. Once we reached the sitting area, we put down our belongings and waited. We were guided to our tables by a lady named Anna. I sat next to some of my friends: Charlie, Daniel (the Kid Scientist), Noah and Josiah. When Daniel got picked for to answer a question, we all gave each other a look as if to say “What will he say this time!”
There were many intriguing views that we came across: large fossils, plagues and dinosaur skeletons. But, one skeleton caught everyone’s eye… the blue whale! We managed to squeeze through the crowd and take a closer look. It was massive! Before the trip, I found out that this was the largest mammal and now I understand why. After 45 minutes of staring at skeletons, we had to move on to a different task.
Special mention: Big thanks to Mrs O’Brien, Mr Baptiste, Mrs Walker, Mr Cummins and Mr Gould for making this trip possible.”
Sounds like Year 6 are working hard on their chronological writing practise for their upcoming SATs! What a great trip!!
