So Many Things Going On – A miscellaneous post!
- Mini Massive Concert at Alexandra Palace
On Monday most of Y4 went up to Alexandra Palace to take part in the first of three “Mini Massive” concerts featuring us and three other schools.
Crimson Class have been learning trumpets and trombones and Scarlet Class have been learning violins.
The children rehearsed with the others and then had the chance to perform in front of their parents and carers in a group concert.
Walter and Ann-Isabelle said:
“We enjoyed listening to the other schools and seeing the other instruments. We really loved performing in front of a big audience – it felt really special and was fun!”
Thank you so much to our peri teachers, Mary, Stephen, Clara and Ben, and the Haringey Music Service for inviting us to take part in such a wonderful thing.
- The Last of the Concerts for the Year
The last of our concerts at Rectory Gardens features the Y4violins (plus Y5 continuers), Y3 recorders and a special small concert for guitars featuring Ceyda and Hizen (Y6)
Again, thank you so much to our peri teachers who put so much effort and attention in to teaching music so passionately in our school
- Hong Kong Students Come to Visit St Mary’s Y3 & Y4
We were visited by upwards of 25 students who are visiting Middlesex University on an exchange programme. They were in Y3 and Y4 and showed the children traditional and fun Chinese activities like how to use chopsticks and make origami. Thank you to Helen Midhage for arranging this for us again – we have missed having the students, due to world events.
- The Fantastic Allotment Area at Rectory Gardens
Thank you so much to Mrs Brewer for tending and nurturing our school allotment at Rectory Gardens. The children have loved their chance to tend the space and recently harvested some potatoes – Daniel Z said “It’s like digging for gold!” Daniel and Sha’quen dug the potatoes, washed and roasted them with some rosemary from the garden. They were extremely tasty!
- School Travel Plan
As part of our commitment to our School Travel Plan we were very pleased to welcome Riot Act theatre company to give a performance to Y5 and Y6 about road safety. The children became expert witnesses after a simulated accident and were very thoughtful and reflective in discussions afterwards.
Back in May, we also had a very interesting and informative visit from representatives from TfL to talk to Year 5 and Year 6 about travelling around London safetly. This was as part of the TfL STARS Safety and Citizenship Year 6 In-School Presentation. The children were highly engaged and had a lot to think about.
- Y5 Confirmation Sunday 9th July
Several of our Y5 children have been undertaking preparation for their Confirmation with Naomi, Nina, Tues and Harry from the Church team and Bishop John Went. We are very pround of them. Don’t they look smart!
- Y5 Visit The Beehives at Greig City Academy
Did you know that Greig City Academy has its own hives and that they produce Hornsey Honey? No? Neither did we but Year 5 were lucky enough to be invited along to see what the process is and what an amazing experience it was. The children were booted and suited in protective clothing and got to see the whole process culminating in a trip to the Food Tech department to have a honey tasting. Thank you so much Greig City for inviting us.
- Our Wonderful ESOL Class
To celebrate the end of a great term, 5 of our lovely ESOL parents brought in food to share at a little party. ESOL classes will resume in September. On a regular day there will be between five and 11 parents attending. Please contact us to find out when they are going to be held, and thank you to Ms Vidic for being available to support these women.
